When you are about to attack your delicious cheesy dream of a pizza, has it ever struck you just how you choose to dig into it? And, did you know that the way could be a reflection of your personality? Find out which type you are!
1. Normal triangle slice – from cheese to crust
This is the most common way to do it and also the Italians approve it, so if you do it this way you save yourself from getting funny looks from them (which often can be hard to avoid when non-Italians eat Italian food). This technique involves cutting one triangle at a time, and then start biting from the cheesy point and work your way to the crust, and then you do exactly the same with the next slice. Some also cut the entire pizza into triangles before eating to be able to focus completely on enjoying every juicy slice.
Personality: You don’t like to mess with traditions. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you never want to try out trendy fusion food like a ramen burger (link), but you’re not the most eager one. You like to spend your summer at the exact same resort at Kreta every year, the phrase “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” suits you well and in your opinion, a classic Bacon Cheeseburger is always a winner.
2. Crust first
The world is divided in two: people who eat the crust and people who don’t. And believe it or not, among the crust-lovers there’s actually a rare group of people that start to eat the crust before the cheesy part, by either eating the crust as it is or dip it into the saucy toppings. And some say it’s actually the easiest way to find out if the dough is well leavened.
Personality: Similarly as your pizza actions, you don’t take shortcuts in life to skip the more dull parts (the crust). As a child you wouldn’t even consider playing with your Barbie Doll before finishing your homework, it was simply not an option. You consider yourself a realist, you live by the phrase “hard work pays off” and you despise people who seem to make it through life without having to face any real obstacles.
3. Leave out the crust entirely
Some people simply leave the crust entirely, for some odd reason. Luckily there’s a saying that for every person who doesn’t eat the crust, there is always a friend or a boyfriend/girlfriend ready to eat it. In other words, a crust-lover and a crust-hater are obviously a perfect match.
Personality: If you notice that your plate is covered by pieces of the crust after you’ve finished eating, you are the type who knows exactly what you want in life. You have specific goals and dreams and you don’t hesitate to pursue them. You don’t wait for good things to happen to you, you make them happen yourself. Also, students and freelancers can be put in this category. Or simply stingy people. This is due to the aspect of saving money, because why should you get full on that non-tasty, low-costing crust when you have a delicious part of expensive parma, beef or gorgonzola in front of you to start with?
4. Middle first with fork and knife
And then there are those who like to start cutting from the middle. For Italians this way is just confusing, there’s not much more to say.
Personality: This pizza-method implies that you are the type who neither wants to rush through your pizza, or life in general. You enjoy every moment of every day to the fullest, even if it’s just about sipping a cup of coffee in the morning with your newspaper or solving a sudoku. You are extremely detail-oriented and you take your time with everything you do.
5. Toppings first
Worst ever according to Italians. You eat all the ingredients first and then the dough. Italians would be really disappointed and they would judge you heavily for this. And if you are Italian and you are doing this… shame on you!
Personality: You like to challenge people on their way of thinking, and provoking people is your guilty pleasure. Your biggest fear is becoming mainstream, you are constantly aiming to be different. You used to wear Dr. Martens and Thrasher t-shirts but as soon as they became popular you got rid of them. And you love to get surprised, even if it’s just by the end of a movie or by the surprisingly tasty filling of a dumpling.
6. Cut the pizza in two and close one half
Easy to do with a pizza Margherita, but a bit difficult if there are more ingredients. If you are in Italy, you can sometimes find half-cut pizza ready to be closed in half, even though this method isn’t socially accepted.
Personality: If you cut your pizza in two and close one half before eating, you are a most likely a rebellion who are not afraid to swim against the stream. The rebellion is always seeking attention and will never obey social norms. People often have a great respect for you and some even glorify you. They envy your self-confidence and they tend to follow your lead.
7. Pizza wallet
For the streets of Naples, where it is still proposed as “street food”, the pizza is folded to “wallets” so it can be consumed without cutlery. This is the fastest way to eat your pizza if you are in a rush to get to a meeting with your boss.
Personality: If you make the pizza wallet when you are about to eat, you are the multitasker. You’re almost never seen at an Italian restaurant, but if you are, you are the guy behind the laptop or school books because you never miss an opportunity to work. Usually, you just grab the pizza and go. Generally, in life it’s important for you to structure your time as efficient as possible, you always make sure to have at least three tasks ahead of you so you’ll never risk getting bored, and you get the chills whenever a holiday is around the corner.
