As our love affair with hummus grows, so have the varieties of ways to eat it. This International Hummus Day, step away from the pitta and check out other ways to enjoy the chickpea-based treat.
1. Add it to mash
Give your mashed potatoes a healthy twist by replacing the cream with hummus; it adds a whole new flavour too!
2. Serve it as dessert

Be brave and serve hummus as a dessert at your next dinner party! You can add pretty much anything to the mix, including chocolate, peanut butter and caramel – the varieties are endless.
3. Mix it into bread

Rather than dipping bread into hummus, add some to the dough. Throw in some seeds and nuts for extra texture and flavour.
4. Add to a lasagna
Use hummus mixed with tofu instead of bechamel sauce to create a vegan-friendly lasagna. If you don’t like the idea of hummus and pasta, swap the lasagna sheets for tortillas.
5. Stir it into soup

As with all soups, what you add is entirely up to you. Once heated and blended, hummus gives the mixture a creamy texture, while toasted chickpeas sprinkled on top add crunch.
6. Use it as a crust
Spread hummus over chicken or salmon before roasting for a delicious crust. Both plain and flavoured versions work – the choice is yours!
7. Spread it in a burger

A dollop of hummus is a healthier alternative than mayo in your burger, and it’s just as tasty. We suggest caramelized onion or sweet pepper flavoured for the best results.
8. Use as a pizza base
Spread hummus on to pizza dough, or a flour tortilla for a lighter option, add your toppings and simply bake/grill! Who says pizza has to be unhealthy?
9. Mix into salad dressing
Add a dash of olive oil and lemon juice to hummus to thin it down and drizzle the dressing over you’re lunchtime salad.
10. Add it to deviled eggs
Mix hummus into your deviled eggs filling to enhance the overall taste and thicken the consistency. Or use it instead of mayonnaise to cut out some calories!
